Speed, Strength & Conditioning Questions
1 ) My 16 year old son is training for the national underclassmen combines 5/20/07 in NJ. he has been training very hard for the past several months. At the end of last season he could run a 4.8 40 but now he can’t break 5.2. He has put on 10lbs. of muscle but we can’t figure out where the speed has gone. it looks like he is struggling almost fighting to run. He is doing a 40 min. arobic workout 3-4 mornings/week, he is weight training 5-6 days/week and working on speed drills 3-4 nights/week.
Any suggesstions on how to find a couple of tenths in the next 3 1/2 weeks?
2 ) How often should speed and agility training be tested to ensure program results and proper training of the athlete?
3 ) How to effectively plan a practice for a large group of high school athletes (varying levels of fitness)… within a two-hour window?
4 ) How do you re-educate athletes that were taught poorly in their youth? Cordination, technique, basic principles, etc. Please help.
5 ) Recovery/Rest is my big question: What can an athlete do during recovery without jeopardizing his next speed/jump training workout (for 14 and 15 year old basketball players)?
6 ) My greatest interest is with the sport I coach – soccer. Soccer requires both speed and endurance. I would like to learn more about how to develop a training program that incorporates both and how that program might evolve during the course of a season. Can you help?
7 ) I would like some help from you. I teach speed training to 9-14 year old boys and I also work with baseball players on base stealing. I find that the Ripken organization here in Maryland teach a crossover step for base stealing instead of a hip turn. I have a lot of experience with body mechanics and to me the hip turn makes more sense. I received my training through the IYCA. I really need to hear opinions so I can make sure the boys are learning the most efficient way for base stealing.
8 ) I have a son 15 yr old son who wants to spend $750 of his hard earned money on a speed training program from Get Fast. It includes 20 sessions on some kind of special tread mill and also plyometrics.
I need help evaluating this and I am hoping for some direction. Your website has been helpful. thanks
9 ) Is there a drive phase, or as long a drive phase, when using Moye starting blocks. Also my distance expert head coach thinks even sprinters should run six days a week-I think they need more recovery than his distance runners.
10 ) I have a 13 year old son who plays Australian football, and I have been searching the web for a program to increase his speed and agility.
He is a good endurance athlete for his size ( 5ft 7in and 145 pounds), but needs to get faster to excel in Aust. Football.
Will your program cover training for Australian Football?
11 ) I have watched the video a couple of times and read thru the book. I still am a bit confused regarding the technique for sprinting. When a sprinter starts they are in crouch position, and when they start they stay low and leg drive gives them their acceleration, at watch stage do they get upright, and is it at this stage they start with the step over drive down.
When do they start stepping over?, I cant see how they can do it when they are low and in the acceleration phase???
12 ) For the baseball 60yd start – you have to start like you are stealing a base for the timed run -do you have any dvd’s that show this? we have to do perfect game for baseball, 6o yard dash- cannot start with a 3point stand…
