Like riding a bike (Usain Bolt proves it)
By Athletes' Acceleration | April 29th, 2009
Running fast is similar to riding a bike.
The idea was reinforced to me this past weekend
when I was riding a bike around Boston with The
Fastest Man in History, Usain Bolt.
To find out what I mean and see some footage of
three Jamaican Olympians riding around Boston on
our bikes, just watch this video:

Great, fast bikers do not apply more force down. They apply more force efficiently in a circle. As part of this bikers are clipped to the pedals. Many perform one legged spinning drills to help build this power thru the complete circular pedal stroke. Although Usain is the fastest runner in the world, I assure you that he cannot beat most amateur bike racers in a sprint.

If you are trying to incorporate bike training into you speed training program, take a look into PowerCranks. The independent pedal system will really start you thinking in a whole new direction when it comes to your bike workouts.
