i have been trying to get in touch with some one with understanding of speed training i have an 18 year old son who has been speed training for the past 4 years he made awesome gains using the methods u talk about in all ur news letters he got a football scholarship to play at
the UNITEDSTATES NAVAL ACADEMY (NAVY) NOW MY CONCERNS R THEY DO SO MUCH LONG DISTANCE RUNNING FROM THE MILITARY SIDE OF SCHOOL WHAT DO WE DO TO KEEP THE SPEED HE HAS NOW BUT ALSO KEEP MAKING GAINS HE IS RUNNING A 4.56 40 FROM A 4.9 WE WANT TO GET THAT DOWN TO A 4.49 OR A 4.50 FLAT I KNOW THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNING TAKES AWAY FROM OVERALL SPEED WHAT CAN WE DO THANK U FOR YOUR TIME .. PLEASE RESPOND

The only way to maintain speed is to keep using it. It's really a tough call because I'm sure the Naval Academy has its own conditioning standards outside of football. But your son must find a way to do true speed work (full speed, full recovery) *at least* one day per week or his times will fall off.

There isn't much of a 'system' I can give for this other than to do it on his own unless he can talk to the coaches, etc. and get them to understand.
